The National Championship Series takes place this week in Virginia Beach, VA. US Adult Soccer is staging the weeklong event with all the finals of the competitions the association holds in a year at one location. Our local boys from West Chester United have qualified for the semi-final after winning the East Penn Open Cup, and the Region I title! They are guaranteed only one game, but should they win it they will move on to the Championship Final and will have the chance to bring the Werner Fricker Cup to East Penn, the namesake’s own state.

West Chester plays in the United Soccer League of Pennsylvania and is a proud member of the Major Division. The USLPA is Eastern Pennsylvania’s only league with US Elite Amateur League status. The United League remains the top-level amateur league in the state. It was founded in 1959 by a number of ethic soccer clubs. Werner Fricker for whom the Open cup is named was one of the original founders. In addition, Fricker was selected to its All Star Team every year from 1958-1968 and captained the squad from 1963-1968. He served as the league Secretary from 1967-1970 and President from 1970-1972. Fricker then went on to lead the Eastern Pennsylvania Soccer Association from 1972-1974.
West Chester finished league play in 5th place with a record of (8-7-3). 2015 marked the fourth consecutive time the club won the East Penn Open Cup. This will be their first appearance at the national finals.
I will be tweeting live from the series next week. You can follow along at @Michael_Fricker.
We also received word from the United League that they will have updates @USLPA.
