US Soccer Allocates US Open Cup Division Slot to previous year’s US Adult Soccer’s US Amateur Cup Champion

CHICAGO, We received word last last night that the US Soccer Open Cup Committee has voted to make an update that affects the US Amateur Cup and in a small way local qualifying for the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup.

The  committee has approved a policy that will allow the USASA Amateur Cup winner (beginning in 2018) a direct slot into the first round of the 2019 US Open Cup.

“This is another great perk for the winner of our Amateur Cup.” – John P. Motta, USASA President.

That it is, a great perk for the US Amateur Cup Champion. The thing is that that champion whoever it will be every year will not enter for the perks. They enter for the challenge. Hey at one point “Challenge” was even in the cup name and on the trophy. They enter because they want to be the best Amateur Club and they want to lift the Fritz Marth Trophy.

Adding another cup to the trophy case is the goal, but getting this extra cherry on top adds a little more to it.
